Welcome to the first edition of the Dizzy News Network (DNN)! I am creating this post to interface with you directly, as there are some things I feel we need to discuss, but first if you haven’t already check out the fan art section. We have some epic submissions from Superfan and Anonymous in there I think you’ll all enjoy.
Ahh the haters, well not really haters if we are honest, but there are some people venting some fairly negative things here. The vast majority of you are super supportive and genuinely awesome. Every month I get tons of email from you guys and it really makes this hobby enjoyable.
There are unfortunately a small but vocal number of asshats here who feel its necessary to post negative crap on these pages. Granted I am no saint, my gross inability to predict when sets will be finished is bordering on comical. So I understand why some people may get upset, coming here day after day for months on end with no word of an update, its frustrating.
I get that, truly.
I am sorry if that makes some of you upset, it is obviously not my intention. The other side of that coin is my life, or rather what I am trying to make of it.
For those of you who don’t know, I work in IT. I spend my days making systems work or putting out technological fires. The work is rewarding but the hours are long and unpredictable. Average week is around 50 hours currently, which isn’t a lot by American standards, but it is when you have hobby as time consuming as this is. Those hours of course can spike, when a major system goes down or when a critical update goes wrong, I am usually part of the team that makes it right.
There have been several times where I have had to choose between doing a few more renders or getting more than 3 hours of sleep in a night. I know Hazel can vouch for me, she has seen me up at all hours on google hangouts squeezing in renders and edits whenever I can.
That said I like to live a little too. My days are spent ass firmly placed in a chair and doing this is no different. I am a car enthusiast, I enjoy gaming, and I like to go out occasionally. I simply don’t have enough time in my day to do all the things I want to do.
Then there is the hobby itself. I am committed to learning and getting better. I always strive to push forward with each set. I take risks and I fail, a lot. You don’t see this because I obviously don’t display them. but I’d say for every successful render I have, there are about 3 that didn’t work out.
I am committed to this hobby and I am equally committed to providing you guys with free content. I have literally spent thousands in the past year alone. I am taking 3D tutoring classes for the programs and techniques that give me trouble. A good portion of my time goes in to the 3DX version of R&D. This is something I am clearly passionate about. Everyone here enjoys an ad-free experience. I am not throwing banners in your face, I don’t advertise on other sites, there is no constant badgering for donations nor am I begging people to buy my sets. You are all here for free.
Which is why I sometimes get a little peeved when people post stupid, ignorant crap on my website. Sometimes I deserve a bit of it, blown deadlines and all. But really guys you should know me by now. I don’t abandon projects (except for the Cala one, oops) and I don’t meet deadlines.
So here is the deal. I won’t ever again make a reference to the future that is exact or uses a date. I will post teasers whenever I damn well please, because its my site that’s why. I am also going to suggest you to take whatever estimation of time you have for content release and throw it clean out the window. Its not going to happen.
If you cannot handle that, I respectfully suggest you leave. This won’t change. If you decide to stay and continue to make petulant remarks in the comments or forums, remember this. I brought you into this site and I can take you out of it.
Those of you that are still with me, thank you for all your support. I hope you enjoy the rest of the first issue of DNN.
